- Buy printed pieces online. These pieces could be for a Mendel or a Prusa.
- Buy Clonedel pieces. The resin cast clonedel Prusa parts are made in molds created from printed parts. These parts are slightly different than standard Prusa parts to make them easier to cast.
- Build a Drill Press or 1x2 Prusa. These are both wooden designs, allowing you to build the device and then print it's replacement.
- Buy a completed RepRap online. You can find people who will sell you complete RepRaps around. Also, you could buy a MakerBot or another commercial RepRap device.
I purchased a set of resin cast clonedel Prusa parts from Metrixcreatespace. It is quite possible that I am mistaken, but I don't remember seeing that the part set included an extruder, which it did. Since I missed that I ended up buying a second extruder on Ebay. I have some extra stepper motors and other parts. I think I might try to build a 1x2 after I finish my Clonedel Prusa.
When you get the Clondel parts, you will see that they have flashing left from the casting process. This will need to be cleaned off with a hobby knife. You will also need to drill most of the holes since they can't really be cast with holes in them.
Lessons Learned:
- If you buy Clonedel parts from Metrix Createspace, you don't need to buy a separate extruder.
- You REALLY need access to a drill press to complete this build.
- You can view .STL (stereolithography) in Meshlab
